PLEASE READ.
I have spent most of my life as an abused child and young woman and in later years trying to get people to listen. Despite publishing three books on the subject, appearing on various TV and Radio programs and being praised for the Charities that I believe in.........Still Abuse goes on.
What does it take for people to sit up and listen? This is still a taboo subject that most decent people don't want to read about and yet they are the first to recoil in horror when stories hit the news and they say how horrible it is. So what can we do?
Children are our future generations and they need to be protected. Public awareness is what is needed, a vigilant teacher, mother or social worker, a nosey neighbour or something that tells you that something is not right!!
I've tried tirelessy to get a film or TV network involved in working with me to highlight my story and many others, to produce some thought provoking media coverage to make people more aware and I have been replied to with the following..."Oh it's too risky" "No one wants to see this sort of thing" "this is too radical" and "It just will not be recieved well." I even had Film 4 interested but we need a production company that is brave and open minded enough to push forward, people that understand the delicate nature of what needs to be done. I even had a company say to me that this kind of film is what reaps awards, BUT, no money. What is money compared to the plight of our children and the daily suffering that goes on.
In my heart I have to hope and believe that someone out there will contact me and speak to me face to face about possibilities. I have to believe in proffessional scriptwriters that they can highlight this terrible blight in Society and make things work and I must above all still hold onto the belief that there are good people out there that believe me when I say, Please help!!
How many more little lives will be damaged beyond repair, how many more women will die at the hands of a violent partner and how many youngsters will have their future ruined by sexual, physical and mental abuse? I know all these things for I have experienced them all. I was lost in a system that didn't act or care and my life was controlled by people who continued to hurt me, but I survived.
I will continue in my search, and I will keep knocking on doors for this is a disease that does not go away. All I need is one person to believe and maybe in my lifetime I will see change. We are a great country and we help others across the planet, but sometimes we ignore what's happening in our own back yard. Fear, Guilt, hopelessness and isolation are what greets abused victims on a daily basis and as a Society it has to stop.
There is so much more we could do. Guidance Councellors in Primary and Secondary Schools, After School clubs were members feel safe enough to talk and Groups that offer help to both men and women in abusive relationships. Victims need to feel that they are not alone, that there is help and that things can change.
I hope this blog reaches someone that cares enough to want change too.
